Shehnaz, a resilient woman from Myanmar, has dedicated her life to empowering and supporting women in her community to pursue higher education and fight for their rights. Born on April 20th, 2003, in Momi Chaung village, MaungDaw Township, Rakhine State in Myanmar. Shehnaz was raised by her parents, Salamot Ullah and Koshida, who taught her to fight for her rights and always supported her. However, in 2017, Myanmar authorities forced her to flee her homeland, leading her to reside in a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, alongside over a million fellow Rohingya refugees. Despite the challenges, Shehnaz persevered and received a scholarship to attend the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, where she recently completed her BA with a major in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) and minored in Development Studies (DS). Before attending university, Shehnaz worked as a volunteer at MSF (Medecins Sans Frontieres) in the Cox’s Bazar refugee camp, raising awareness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and supporting women who had experienced SGBV. She also worked as a private teacher, teaching grade 1 to 5 students inside the camp. Shehnaz’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and her belief in the power of education continue to inspire others to pursue their dreams and fight for their rights.
