Biography of Sufiya Bi Bi


Sufiya Bi Bi is a dedicated advocate for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, with nearly a decade of practical experience working in challenging humanitarian contexts. Raised and grown up in northern Maungdaw, Rakhine State, Myanmar, her life and career were significantly impacted when she was forced to flee to Bangladesh during the mass exodus of 2017.

Professional Experience

Currently, Ms. Bi Bi is serving as the Women Empowerment Coordinator at the Rohingya Aid and Empowerment Network (RAEN), where she leverages her extensive knowledge to support women and girls in the refugee camp context.

Prior to her displacement, she acquired over five years of crucial on-ground experience in Rakhine State, Myanmar, working with Malteser Myanmar from 2011 to 2017. In her role as a Women Facilitator, she was instrumental in providing support and education in rural areas, which included:

  • Delivering training to women and girls.
  • Conducting awareness sessions focused on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.
  • Promoting Girl Education.
  • Providing vital Menstrual Health Training.

Upon her arrival in Bangladesh, she continued her commitment to community service by working with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) as a Community Health Worker (CHW). This role provided her with valuable practical skills, further strengthening her capacity to work effectively with the most persecuted populations within the fragile context of the Bangladesh Refugee Camps.
